Injured Women Airlifted from Muddy Creek Falls |

Around 12:30 p.m. a call came into Garrett Central with a report of a women falling on the rocks in the area of Muddy Creek Falls. Engine Rescue 43 and Southern Garrett Ambulance responded to the scene. Since she had fallen in such a remote location Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 5 responded in order to hoist the women out of the area. She had pain in the leg area. 40 personnel and Southern Garrett Ambulance packaged the women as best as they could on the scene and the then was hoisted into the helicopter. Then the helicopter landed at the Fairgrounds and Northern Garrett Ambulance packaged the women fully. Chief Feather said, "It was the first one for us that I can ever recall in the 28 years I've been in the department." Nursing Home Evacuated After Chemical Leak |

At 12:13a.m. dispatch alerted a full assignment for a chemical leak at the Oakland Nursing and Rehab, 706 East Alder Street. As the crew on Engine/Rescue 43 arrived, they located two employees outside the laundry area in the parking lot reporting Chlorine leak and complaining of burning eyes and breathing difficulties. Both were transported to Garrett Memorial Hospital by crews from Southern Garrett Ambulance (Co.9). The crew from Engine/Rescue 43 completed a search for further victims with negative results. Not knowing the cause or chemicals involved, the Allegheny County Hazardous Incident Response Team was requested. The decision was made to evacute bringing additional ambulances from Southern Garrett Ambulance (Co.9), Northern Garrett Ambulance (Co.2), Garrett Medical Transport, and four buses with wheel chair lifts from Garrett Transit Service. Evacuation sites were secured at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home and the former Armory. Sixty Five of the approximate 100 patients had been evacuated when Haz-Mat arrived and declared the scene safe. The all clear was given and units began returning patients home. All were returned at 4:45a.m.. The leak developed when a hose burst in a Chlorine based laundry detergent. Propane Tank on Fire Inside the Structure |

| At around 3:00p.m. dispatch received a call for a propane tank on fire at 365 Dennett Road. As Engine/Rescue 43 was responding, Deputy Chief Murray arrived on the scene reporting a gas grill on fire inside the garage. WIthin minutes he radioed back and advised he had removed the burning grill to a safe location outside. The crew stood by for approximately 1 hour while the tank was allowed to finish burning off. 8-6-06 Responding Units: Engine Rescue 43 |

Good Day In Friendsville |

Several members to include the Honor Guard traveled to Friendsville Saturday morning to attend the annual Friendsville Days parade. Engine/Rescue 43 received a trophy for the Best Appearing Pumper over 1250 GPM, and the Group received the trophy for Best Appearing Fire Department. 8-5-06 |
