Former Deep Creek Chief Dies in the Line of Duty
Former Chief and current President Ed Wilburn of the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department died in the line of duty Saturday afternoon. While enroute to there station for a mutual aid to Friendsville for a structure fire Ed Wilburn suffered a medical problem, and crashed his truck into a ravine just south of Sang Run Road. Company 30 and Northern Rescue Squad responded. Our company was alerted in place of Deep Creek but was later cancelled. Wilburn is only the second firefighter to die in the line of duty in Garrett County. Dave Turney was the first one to have died while working a Garrett Central, and was a current member of our company. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Wilburn family, and the Deep Creek Fire Department.
