M/V Accident on Oakland Sang Run Road with entrapment

11/20/2008     1303 hrs   
Dispatch alerted crews for a vehicle accident with entrapment on the Oakland Sang Run Road.   Engine/Rescue 43 and the EMS Crew from Station 9 arrived to find a vehicle into a large tree with heavy front end damage, with the elderly female driver still inside.   Further investigation revealed the driver to be pinned from her knees down.   With a EMS  crew member inside providing spinal imoblization the crew went to work cutting the A post, removing both doors and the entire B post from the drivers side.  The crew  decided a dash roll would not work due to the way the subject was pinned, so they cut   the lower front rocker pannels and was able to lift  the dash   The extrication took approx. 35 min to complete.   The subject was placed on a full board and transported to Garrett Memorial Hospital, Priority 1

 
2200 block of Broadford Road for a M/V Accident
Crews were alerted for a vehicle accident on the Broadford Road.   Engine/Rescue 43 responded undermanned and requested the next due from Station 20 (Deer Park) to respond.   As the  EMS Crew  from Station  9 arrived they advised they had a pickup truck on it side with two entrapped.   Engine/Rescue 43 arrived and went quickly to work stabalizing the vehicle and removing the roof.  Both subjects were then removed and turned over to the EMS crew for transport to Garrett Memorial. November Starts off Busy
The first couple weeks of November have been busy for the crews at Station 40.  Along with a variety of calls and normal work around the firehouse,  members have been busy with the new Engine/ Tanker loading hose,  radios, striping, mounting equipment and getting it ready for service.  The following calls have been logged:

11/09/2008     1947 hrs     M/V Accident on the Fingerboard Road with injuries

11/10/2008     0726 hrs     Fourth Street in Oakland for the Unknown Type Rescue from a collapse.   The crew of five arrived to find a worker who had been buried when a large pile of wooden  pallets collapsed on him.   Other workers had already removed the pallets and were treating him for injuries when fire and ems crews arrived.  The  male subject was placed on a full board with full spinal immobilization and transported to Garrett Memorial Hospital by Southern Garrett Rescue

11/10/2008     1350 hrs     Crews were alerted  to assist Company 30 (Deep Creek) for the Structure Fire at 18546 Garrett Highway. Engine/Rescue 43 and Engine/Tanker 46 responded  with a total of 9 on board.   The crew off Engine/Rescue 43 was assigned fire supression duties while the Engine/Tanker crew set up water supply operations.

11/10/2008     1921 hrs     Assist to Company 30 (Deep Creek) on a Flue Fire at 153 Red Run Heights.

11/10/2008     2015 hrs     Assist to Company 160 (Terra Alta) on a Structure Fire.  Units were place in service by Chief 160 (Kirk) before arriving on the scene

11/12/2008     1025 hrs     310 E Street, Mt Lake Park for the Electrical Fire.  The crew located a malfuncting electrical heater

11/13/2008     1743 hrs     202 S Third Street      M/V Accident    The crew provided traffic control

11/14/2008     1126 hrs     North Third Street in Oakland for the M/V Accident with injuries

11/16/2008     1048 hrs     403 Dave Turney Street, Mt Lake Park for a smoke detector activation.   The crew located a faulty detector in a second floor hallway.

11/17/2008     Members say final goodby to old Tanker 46 as it leaves for its new home at the Bayard Volunteer Fire Department
11/17/2008     1849 hrs    Garrett Highway, North for a M/V Accident.  
 
New Tanker FINALLY Arrives

After many months of waiting the new tanker arived in Oakland friday night. Members of the tanker committee left at 0230 hrs. friday morning for the five and half hour trip to Guardian Fire Equipment, North of Philadelphia. Once arriving the folks at Guardian worked to repair some minor issues. The crew arrived back in Oakland around 2300 hrs. friday night. Chief Feather expects to have it in service within the next few weeks once equipment is mounted and members recieve training.
 
Assist to Terra Alta on Structure Fire

Crews from Station 40 were alerted at 1230 hrs to assist Co. 160 (Terra Alta) on a house fire on Lakin Ave. in Terra Alta. This sent Truck 44 and Tanker 46 to the scene. Once arriving the crews were assigned the duties of checking for extension in the attic area and overhaul. Crews remained on the scene for one hour.
 
Working Fire on Second Street

Dispatch alerted units at 0800 hrs. for a apartment fire at 301 S. Second Street in Oakland. This sent Engine Rescue 43 with four and Truck 44 with two to the scene. As the EMS crew from station 9 (SGCRS) approached the scene they reported heacy smoke showing. The Engine/Rescue arrived with heavy smoke showing from side B, pulled the 1 3/4 hand line and went to work. The Truck set up at the corner of side A & B and opened the rook. As additional units arrived Engine 23 (Deer Park) hit the hydrant and handled water supply. Engine 122 (Gorman) was assigned to ventilation duties. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes. The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshalls Office.

As the crew on Engine 161 (Terra Alta) arrived they were sent on a vehicle accident with injuries on the Herrington Manor Road. Once they cleared they returned to the fire scene and assisted with salvage and overhaul.
