Engine/Rescue 43 Wins at Kingwood Buckwheat Festival |
|
After two evenings of cleaning the crew of six traveled to Kingwood in the rain to attend the annual Buckwheat Festival Parade. After being judged, the gang sat down for several helpings of Buckwheat cakes and Sausage. After the meal, the parade crew rode through the parade to show off for the brave souls who came out for the evening. Although the crew did not stay for the awards, they learned the next morning they had won a very nice trophy for Best Appearing Pumper. Crews Assist Terra Alta on Structure Fire |

Crews were alerted shortly after noon to assist Co. 160 (Terra Alta, WV) for a structure fire on the Terra Alta Lake Road. The crew dumped the house sending Engine/Rescue, Truck, and Tanker. When the crew arrived the crew from Co.160 had the bulk of the fire knocked down. The gang from Oakland went to work assisting with the job to mop up. Crews Assist With Fire Prevention |

Crews traveled to the area Elementary Schools to assist the members of hte Cumberland Firefighters Local with Fire Prevention. The firefighters from Cumberland brought the Fire Safe House up and provided third graders from the school with tours through the trailer while the crew from Oakland provided tours of Engine/Rescue 43. 9/25-26/06 |

Truly A Sad Moment |

The station was alerted on Mondat morning for a vehicle fire on the Ben Dewitt Road. Engine Rescue 43 responded with 4, and Tanker 46 with two. The crew arrived to find the vehicle fully involved. The crew quickly took care of the problem with a 1 3/4 inch hand line. Once the fire was extinguished, it was discovered the vehicle was a fully restored vintage 1963 Chevy Corvette convertible. The truly sad thing was the owner only carried liability insurance on the vehicl. Early Morning Blaze |

At approimately 5:00 a.m. Oakland and surrounding companies were alerted for a structure fire on Q street in Mountain Lake Park. Upon arrival on the scene heavy smoke was coming out of windows in the house. A hose line was sent inside to contain the fire. It took 15 minutes to get the fire under contol. After the fire was out units stayed on the scene for overhauling of the attic and garage. OVFD Has In House Training |

Members and officers of the department organized a in house training focused around using the pumps on the apparatus.The pump part consisted of properly drafting from a pond and a hydrant, and working with the ladder nozzle. Also the training focused around properly using a nozzle in case of a malfunction. 9-13-06 |
