Oakland's First Ladder Truck
|
|||||||||||||||||
We recently came across a picture of Oakland's first Ladder Truck. It was a 1963 Peter Pirsch 100 ft tractor drawn tiller truck. The truck was purchashed from the District of Columbia Fire Department in the fall of 1984 for the purchase price of $100.00. Several members traveled to the Bladensburg Fire Department in Prince Georges County where it was being stored. After a few hours of learning the operations and how to drive it they brought the thing home, which was really crazy since none of them had ever operated a tiller truck in their life. The unit stayed around Oakland for only about a year then was sold to the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department in West Virginia. The rest is only memories for the few remaining members who were around back then.
